"Eight Pennant Bannerfish" is a painting that was inspired by the rhythms of the sea. The mind reels the first time you dip under Caribbean waters and see how a water world has organized life in a completely different way than we know above ground.
These eight banner fish make an interlocking checkerboard of blacks and whites, tied into the S-Curve that runs up to that whip-like dorsal fin. I tried to paint a dense school of banner fish, but I could not make it gel. Something about all those stripes made it hard to make a picture with the right sense of flow. So eight is what I could render without introducing clutter.
Acrylic, pearlescent paint, oil on stretched canvas. 36“x”48. Wired and ready to hang.
