"Cardinal in Cupheas"; this picture features Cupheas, a flower native to Central America, but popular here in Southern California. They have tube like flowers, which attract the birds and bees. Other Cupheas have bat faced shaped flowers. Some call them “Mexican Cigars”. They are hardy and bloom throughout the year.
This picture was one of my attempts to merge the abstract and the representational. The abstract background was painted and poured on first. Only after that, can a composition for the foreground be imagined.
This is an original, one of a kind painting, and took a hundred hours minimum. I hope you like it.
20”x24”, oil, acrylic and pearlescent paint on stretched canvas. Wired and ready to hang. Unframed.
