… is an original painting on canvas of 2 birch trees, draped in snow, side-lit with pink sunlight. The birches are bathed on gold and blue light, casting deep shadows.
"Deep Winter Snow Birches"; is part of a painting series I started a some 20 years ago and continue making today. These 30”x40” horizontal paintings were part of a broader theme I was exploring, of America and the west. (They were very personal paintings, and tied to a book I wrote, about the American west, and the Mandan tribe, before the arrival of the whites.)
This is a large picture that dominates a room with the power of a blazing gold to pink multicolor sunset. The subject is seductive with its background of bright hues that smoothly transition across the center. The pockets of snow in the crotch of branches are ready to drip the spring melt water, and melt the last of the ice cycles.
An original oil, acrylic and pearlescent painting; varnished, on stretched canvas, 30”x40”, wired and ready to hang. Unframed.
