"Octopus and Clown Triggerfish"

from $50.00

"Octopus and Clown Triggerfish" is a painting I took 2 months to finally complete. It’s visualization of the Giant Pacific Red Octopus interacting with 2 Clown Triggerfish. The Red Octopus is maybe 4 or 5 feet long, so not a giant to us) - but he is quite a rusty red, and likes to hang out around tide pools.

Clown Triggerfish, with their goofy faces and beak like mouths are actually a pretty aggressive, territorial fish, not shy about attacking smaller fish. Their clownish teeth are very sharp, helpful when eating crustaceans. They are gorgeously, fantastically colored, making them popular aquarium fish.

The painting was initially, at the start, about establishing the reflective, shimmering surface of the water at the top, and getting the transition right as we drop down a few feet, into the dark greens of the deep.

Acrylic and pearlescent paints, on stretched canvas, 24×30”.

Painting is wired and ready to hang. Unframed.
