"3 Aspens in Pink Light" is an original painting on canvas of 3 Aspen trees, looking sturdy in the fading light of day. Pockets of snow cling to the tops of the short, snapped-off branches.
The background is a wildly poured mix of yellow and red. Pink light tints the snow. Winter winds push the powdery snow around the base of the trees.
"3 Aspens in Pink Light" ; is part of a painting series I started a some 20 years ago and continue making today. These 48” x 36” vertical paintings were part of a broader theme I was exploring, of America and the west. (They were very personal paintings, about the American west, and the Mandan tribe, before the arrival of the whites.)
This is a large picture that dominates a room with the power of a blazing multicolor sunset. The subject is seductive with its mix of the white trees in fading light, with a background of swirling winter skies. The pockets of snow are ready to drip the spring melt water.
